On this occasion, FOREL welcomed a wide range of visitors on board: school groups on Friday, followed by members of the public from all walks of life on Saturday and Sunday.
More than 500 curious visitors on board over three days!
In total, more than 500 people came on board FOREL over the course of these three days.
Friday was dedicated to school groups, with five classes welcomed on board. On Saturday and Sunday, the public visits proved very popular: all scheduled slots were fully booked, alongside numerous spontaneous visits.
Over these three days, pupils and members of the public had the opportunity to discover the vessel, learn how it operates and explore its world, thanks to explanations and conversations with the crew.
Polar research at sea, from Greenland to Antarctica
On Saturday, 10 October, Baptiste Régnier, captain of FOREL, took part in a panel discussion on polar research at sea, alongside representatives from Under The Pole and the Tara Oceans expedition.
Focusing on scientific expeditions from Greenland to Antarctica, the discussion highlighted the role of sailing vessels in studying climate change and marine ecosystems. Participants shared their experiences of putting their vessels at the service of science in remote regions, where observation methods can sometimes be limited.
It was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on the challenges of marine research and the importance of studying polar regions and the open ocean, where the effects of ongoing environmental changes are becoming increasingly apparent.
Thank you to everyone who made these days possible
A huge thank you to the teams and volunteers of the Festival des Aventuriers de la Mer for their warm welcome and help in organising the visits, as well as to everyone who came on board to discover FOREL.
These three days demonstrated the public's interest in sailing vessels, maritime adventures and the people who bring them to life. It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce FOREL to new audiences, share our passion for the sea and create new connections ashore!
