Discovering Life on Board
The visit provided an opportunity to introduce the activities carried out aboard FOREL, while also giving visitors a glimpse into the vessel’s various facilities and the living and working conditions of the crew and scientific teams during missions in polar regions.
For both children and adults, this immersion offered a better understanding of the role of a research vessel and a behind-the-scenes look at the scientific missions conducted in these exceptional environments.
A Meeting at the Heart of the Community
Beyond the scientific discovery, the day was above all a wonderful opportunity to connect with the young people of Ittoqqortoormiit. The children’s enthusiasm led to rich and spontaneous exchanges between the local community, the crew, and the scientists on board.
These encounters are invaluable in building connections between scientific missions conducted in polar regions and the communities living closest to these territories.
FOREL would like to warmly thank everyone who came aboard for their warm welcome, curiosity, and enthusiasm. This day will remain a wonderful memory of our stop in Ittoqqortoormiit and is a perfect illustration of the importance of sharing knowledge and fostering dialogue around science and the polar regions.
