From Ilulissat to Narsaq: The Final Leg Begins

Science 08.08.2025

FOREL is embarking on the last stage of its 2025 mission, exploring the spectacular fjords of Narsaq and their scientific mysteries.

After several weeks spent in Disko Bay, FOREL has set sail southward, now navigating the fjords of Narsaq to open the final chapter of the 2025 mission. Calm seas, pastel skies, and our scientific sailing vessel proudly entering these new research areas.

LEG 4 – August 8 to September 4, 2025
To conclude this mission, FOREL once again supports the scientists of the GreenFjord project in southern Greenland. Research focuses include:

  • Interactions between land, ocean, atmosphere, and biodiversity in response to climate change (Prof. Julia Schmale, Prof. Samuel Jaccard, Prof. Loïc Pellissier, Dr. Lucas Paoli, Dr. Anna Carratala)

  • Field tests of new technologies and sensors (Prof. Julia Schmale, Prof. Mirko Kovac, Dr. Lucas Paoli)

  • Social survey on local perceptions of changing fjords (Prof. Laine Chanteloup)
