Heading north, all sails up!

Navigation 26.06.2025

A steady 20-knot wind allowed us to hoist the sails and sail at 8 knots towards the northern tip of Anticosti Island. FOREL is leaving the St. Lawrence Estuary and entering the Gulf.

This unique two-masted sailboat, equipped with two-masted aero-rig, is perfectly suited for ocean research: easy to handle, simple to maneuver, and offering a wide working deck for scientific equipment and sampling operations.

Between two sampling stations, Anne-Sophie Cloutier, a master’s student with the Takuvik team (Université Laval), who studies nanoparticles in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, enjoys a sunny moment on deck.

Meanwhile, captain Baptiste Regnier and first mate Julien Lubrano Lavadera take a well-earned coffee break, catching their breath after the last gale.
