Throughout this expedition, researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) are continuing their work on polar ecosystems, exploring territories that are as fascinating as they are remote.
Lucas Paoli and his team are studying the diversity of microorganisms found in meltwater, at the interface between glaciers and the ocean. These invisible ecosystems are essential to improving our understanding of the rapid transformations taking place across polar regions.
Meanwhile, Mirko Kovac and his team are testing a drone capable of landing on water and collecting water samples at different depths. This technology makes it possible to reach difficult-to-access areas and explore Greenland’s fjords in new ways.
Our final stop: Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the most remote communities in Greenland.
One last stop before bringing this second scientific leg of the FOREL 2026 expedition to a close.
