On board FOREL: Caroline Bouchard
Caroline Bouchard is an assistant professor at Université Laval (Québec) and a specialist in Arctic pelagic ecosystems — the open-water zones that host key species like polar cod (Boreogadus saida).
This small, discreet fish plays a central role in the Arctic food web: it links zooplankton to large predators such as ringed seals, belugas, and narwhals.
A vital connector in a fragile ecosystem.
During this mission aboard the research sailboat FOREL, Caroline is studying how glacier melt is impacting Greenland’s fjords:
How do changes in salinity, temperature, or turbidity affect zooplankton and polar cod larvae?
Her goal: to better understand how marine life is adapting — or weakening — in a rapidly changing Arctic
