During the FOREL 2024 expedition, Donovan Cantin, a Master’s student in Biology at Université Laval (Québec, Canada), conducted his first research work aboard the scientific sailing vessel FOREL. Supervised by Dr. Philippe Archambault, Professor in the Department of Biology at Université Laval and Scientific Director of ArcticNet, Donovan developed a pioneering project to observe seafloor biodiversity using deployable photo/video frames.
His preliminary results were presented at a scientific conference in the form of a poster, which was awarded the 2nd Best Poster Prize. This recognition highlights the quality of his work and showcases the significance of the research conducted aboard FOREL.
This project also reflects the FOREL expedition’s commitment to training the next generation of scientists and documenting polar biodiversity. Congratulations to Donovan and to all the scientists on board for their dedication and valuable contributions.
