The highlight of the mission was the successful deployment of the helikite, a hybrid tethered balloon designed to collect atmospheric measurements above the fjord.
Throughout the day, the researchers conducted a wide range of activities, both on land and at sea:
-
preparing the helikite in the early morning fog,
-
solving technical details,
-
sampling lakes along the coast,
-
incubations and measurements,
-
operating the helikite and a drone,
-
holding a science meeting on deck,
-
and ending the day with an evening mooring in a spectacular landscape.
“Everything went smoothly — the team is really in action!” said Professor Julia Schmale (EPFL), principal investigator of the GreenFjord project.
It was a long, intense, and fruitful day — perfectly reflecting the collaborative spirit driving the GreenFjord mission.
